Starting my project concept design, this is ideal for me as this is the sought of thing i want to do when I finish Uni. My brief was to watch two films, they were called 'Breathless' and 'The Birds', from these films we were supposed to get inspiration and create research which informs fabrics choice, surface print, silouette, logo brand and accessories, and also look at who our clients is and why.
I found birds most interesting. I find animal most interesting and the way the birds acted in the film, made me think of animals in general and how they act in their natural habitat. I found this amazing book called 'Animal Life, The definitive visual guide to animals and their behaviour'. By Charlotte Uhlenbroek. I got this book at a major bargain too, only £4.99 was orginally £30.00. This book tells you everything from what an animal is to, its groups, history and the way they behave. The main chapters i looked at were, Living space, Defence, Hunting and feeding and Sex and reproduction. This book has some amazing pictures of how the animals function when under threat and series of photos of the special rituals they do to begin mating. I've attatched some of my concept pages below to give you an idea of my thought processes, and where i got my primary and secondary research from.
Eagles dismember carcase that have been left by preditors, creating textile sample by dismebering fabric and sewing them together. A glass frog has a faint outline, with this i created a fabric sample by using a skin tone fabric to outline the figure which would feature a darker fabric in the centre, contouring the body, almost creating the illusion of a slender figure. Rhinos have tough skin, this made me look into stiff, thick fabrics. So i decided to look at denims, suedes, leather.
The brief states we have to draw 50 womenswear and 50 menswear, 30 key flats from these design, print ideas with prices and techniques, and knitwear research with the correct techinques, yarn detail and terminology. Yep alot of work!! Below is a image of my full 50 mens, 50 womens initial and developed ideas. I decided to design my ideas in small collections from different inspirations from my research pages. I did this so I could have enough ideas to actually design. :) I wanted to link my mens and womens collection into each other so every 10 mens and 10 womens links together being designed from the same inspiration.
So from these initial and developed ideas, i further developed my ideas, with the textile and knitwear ideas to form a flowing collection for my finial 8 mens and 8 womens collections. From my concept pages i hope you can see where and how i got my insipration and that its clearly visible.
Above is my final womens wear collection. I want my collection to flow so i wanted a very tidy colour plaette which is inspired from, how the adder camoflages his body to hide away from its prey, So i thought neutral different skin tones would be most suited. Below are flats manufacturing sheets for each of my garment pieces each with discription, fabric samples and the information for trim detail.
Below is my mens finial collection and flats. :)
So they are my final designs. We were also asked to look at accesories and i thought this was a perfect opportunity to use this as the LURE. I thought gold ONLY would be a perfect compliment to my designs and choice of colours. Below is a mood board of jewellery and key words thats inspired me.
I'm happy with my final outcome. I looked at the film birds and felt inspired to create this whole mens and womens collection. I think my collection is most definatly targeted to a clients who like clean lined garments that are wearable. I feel my thought process to this collection is clearly shown and explained from start to finish. I chosen not to add print in my collection, as i want to focus on the fring and outline detail used from my concept. I feel my collection and accesories work well together, and i think and hope you will agree i acheived this. :)
